GETTING OUT THE GAME
After losing his father at age six, Javon Taylor, known in the streets as J., is forced to play the game without guidance. The youngest of three boys, Javon embraced a different, much darker childhood from that of his older brother’s. J. finds a letter written by his father retracing his hazardous lifestyle in the streets of Baltimore leading to his addiction to drugs and alcohol, and ultimately causing him to go mentally insane. Making friends came easy to J., but after moving around his entire life he develops a reserved thuggish demeanor, while vowing to never love, trust or commit to anyone or anything. Trapped between the grind of a natural born hustler and a natural born athlete, Javon and his boys must overcome a childhood surrounded by sex, broken homes, drugs, alcohol, gangs, crime, guns, murder and prison. Playing football gave Javon an opportunity to earn a college education and play professional football, but first he and his boys must trust God and get out the game.

Omar Powell, I'm really interested in conversing with you and bloggers regarding your urban fiction novel. I have heard a lot about your book Getting Out The Game and can't wait until its avble. online and in stores. I'm looking forward to purchasing your novel,please keep me posted on your release date.
Since your an athlete as well as author, what is your opinion on the recent athletes legal issues i.e. M. Vick, Pacman Jones, A. Iverson,etc.?
Do you think these athletes are a product of their environment or just stupid?
That is a very intriquing question mymy, first let me thank you for the taking the time converse with me. Yes, I believe these athletes violating the laws are indeed products of their environment, however; many athletes have come from poverty, crime infested environments and that is not and never will be an excuse to justify stupidity.
As an athlete, let me tell you, we are blessed both physically and financially, and for anyone whether it be a high profile athlete like Vick, a unknown athlete or even a former athlete to waste God's gift to them on stupid actions is very unfortunate to fans, family and black communities.
